Extra Post: Fouetté Turn Compilation

Hey everyone! Hope all of your Genius Hour projects are going well.  I've decided to give you all further demonstration of the turn I am learning to do.  A lot of times when people watch the turn, they see how graceful and fluid it is, and think that it doesn't look that difficult to do if you can dance and if you practice it.  However, I put this to the test when I asked some students in our class to try out fouettés just to show that they are not easy whatsoever.  Then I compared their attempts of the turn with turns done by some girls at my dance studio who have been helping me learn how to fouetté.  I hope you get a good laugh out of this, and understand that fouettés are much more difficult than they seem. Talk to you soon!

  1. Avery, I love this video! Besides the fact that it is totally hilarious, it also provides viewers context on how difficult it is to actually do this type of turn. Giving people an understanding of how challenging it really is will definitely help them appreciate the work you are doing more. I also think that it very smart of you to get some help from dancers at your studio, as they will probably have some really good tips on how they each personally went about learning how to do one. One suggestion for your blog (which is super adorable by the way, I love the picture at the top), would be to add videos of you attempting the turn, so then at the end of the project we could literally see your progress. I can't wait to see you master it!

  2. Avery,
This video is awesome!! I love how you are incorporating other students into the project so that you can increase everyone's interest level. For your final presentation, are you going to show the turn live? Or just on a video? Are you going to have other choreography in addition to the turns? Or just show specifically what you have learned. I think it's awesome that you are doing something that will really benefit you, and something that you will love to use for the future. Great job and can't wait to see your progress!!

I don't know who the first guy is in the video but man he is good at dancing! I think posting the video is brilliant as it shows how hard it is. Will you be able to become as good as them? I love the motivation and can't wait to see you turn for your presentation.

  4. Your video is great! I It was an awesome way to engage your viewers and demonstrate the difficulty of your topic. I am excited to see how your project turns out especially being a dancer myself. Keep up the great work!

  5. Hey Aves!
The video is priceless. The way you edited Joe's part is just perfect. Your friends from dance are so good at those turns, maybe you should invite them in to teach us 'gifted' kids a little about dance. Your project is coming along great, and I'm so happy your so into it! Very impressed that you even convinced some of our friends to attempt this dance move. Claps to all of them for putting themselves out there! I am super hype to see the final product of you (hopefully) being successful with this turn. I have confidence that you can master it and be even better than your dance friends from the video. Keep up the good work!
